Håkan Pleijel

Håkan Pleijel is a professor in Environmental Science at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Gothenburg, since 2006. He was trained as a plant ecophysiologist and his research is focused on the interaction between vegetation and the atmosphere. A large fraction of his work has been related to the effects of carbon dioxide and ground level-ozone on crops and other vegetation. In addition to experimental investigations his work includes meta-analyses and derivation response functions for effects of carbon dioxide and ozone on crops. A major area of interest has been the pattern of effects on different response variables and how these are related to each other. This includes a range of quality aspects, such as protein and mineral concentrations, as well as growth pattern and allocation. Finally, Håkan works with traffic related air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and particles. This part of his research covers the importance of urban greenery for the city environment by removing air pollutants.

His talk will be on 'CO2 effects on wheat: response functions and meta-analysis'.
